Brain Break Tin

While visiting Milbrook Elementary school, my classroom of 2nd graders were full of energy by the end of the day. The teacher enjoyed having the classroom do a "movement break", but some of the students seemed shy to do the intricate dancing that was part of the break. Also, the entire class completed the break together. By making a fun and easy "Brain Break Tin", multiple ways of moving are chosen for each break. The students used the brain break tin on the day I completed it and it was a great way to get students engaging in multiple ways of getting energy out. The teacher can also send students over to complete a brain break individually when they might need some extra movement, or as a reward for completing an assignment early.
This is an example of using the UDL approach of multiple means of engagement. It helps to motivate students or to refocus students.

Stretchy Foot Movement Band

On my first observation at Milbrook Elementary, I noticed that some students had a difficult time of staying in their seat when needed. This was even after a movement break which came not too long after a recess. This stretchy band allows students to move their restless legs while staying seated at their desks. It allows students to move around while still focusing on their work, and is quiet and can be moved from desk to desk as different individuals need it.
This is an example of the UDL approach multiple means of engagement. It helps keep students focused and motivated even during prolonged times of being in their seats.

Math Review Kahoot.it!
I wanted to create an easy, fun, and quick way for my mentor teacher to gain data with a formative assessment. This kahoot.it contains a mix of math problems that I found from all of the student work that is displayed in her room. This application draws on the multiple means of representation that is present in the room and enables students to compete with one another through this means of action and expression.

Reusable Schedule/Organizer
This was made to help my teacher give students some self-regulation and increase their executive functioning. She can write up things that need to be completed for each lesson on the special dry-erase blue tape, and on the back side is a completed laminated blank sheet where she can draw organizers such as Venn Diagrams which can easily be erased after use. The application is large enough for students to see it, so they can access it by themselves by just looking.
